If you love Pop Surrealism, Street Art and vinyl figures then there’s an exhibition that you really wouldn’t want to miss:
On May 26th the exhibition Art & Toys – Collection Selim Varol was launched at Me Collectors Room, Berlin, it will run until September 16th.
The exhibition showcases over 3000 pieces by over 200 artists, from more than 20 countries and contains both a large selection of vinyl toys and original artworks. The exhibition consists of a mere selection of pieces from the vast and still growing collection of German/Turkish collector Selim Varol, which now contains around 15000 toys and vinyl figures, as well as numerable original artworks by artists who have their roots in Street Art and Pop Surrealism. The 39-year-old collector has been collecting toys since he was a child, and owns one of the largest collections in Europe.
We’ve already recognized old favourites by the likes of Gary Baseman, Yoshitomo Nara, KAWS, Fafi, Shepard Fairey, Kozik, Amos, Michael Lau, Gloomy Bear, Gorillaz and many more. In fact: if you would’ve visited Famous in the Huidenstraat 17 a few years ago, you would’ve been able to purchase many of these vinyl figures!
Although we sold most of our collection, there are still a few items available such as the awesome Obey Red Dog Quee, designed by Obey/Shepard Fairey back in 2005, and Yoshitomo Nara’s Little Wanderer. So if you want to start your own unique vinyl toys collection, cast an eye on Famous Auction House, as we will be posting more of these vinyl gems!
