Jean-Michel Basquiat (1960-1988) was an American artist from New York. He started out as a graffiti artist under the name of SAMO, painting primarily textual graffiti’s on buildings in Manhattan. Later he moved to Neo-expressionist paintings. Basquiat liked to paint on random objects and surfaces. In 1980 he got introduced to Andy Warhol, with whom he would collaborate. Basquiat died of a heroin overdose at the age of 27.
