Yasumasa Morimura (1951) is a Japanese artist from Osaka. Morimura’s work consists of self-portraits that copy iconic paintings, artworks and photographs. He re-creates them literally, dressing himself as the main character within elaborately fabricated surroundings, thus creating an image that is eerily similar to the original. Morimura has depicted Marilyn Monroe, Frida Kahlo, Albert Einstein, Cindy Sherman, Rembrandt, van Gogh, Edouard Manet, Che Guevara, and many others.
