Erwin Olaf presents new Willem-Alexander coin in The Hague!

31 October 2013

Today in The Hague, Erwin Olaf has presented the new euro coin with King Willem-Alexander depicted on it. Olaf has said that at first he was in doubt if he should become the new coin designer, but after a bicycle tour through Amsterdam, he got inspired.
The news that Olaf would be the new coin designer, leaked last month.
The new King Willem-Alexander euro coin will get in circulation from January.
There were 5 other participating artists in the competition, but the currency advisory committee favored Olaf’s design over the others.
The Dutch King and Queen have worked together with Olaf before. In 2011, Olaf has made a portrait of Queen Beatrix.
