Joseph Beuys (1921-1986) was a German artist, performer and sculptor from Krefeld, he worked and lived in Düsseldorf. He created drawings, objects, sculptures and installations, often created of felt and animal fat. He became famous through his performances, such as I love America and America loves me (1974) for which he locked himself up in a cage with a coyote for five days. Beuys is seen as one of the most influential European artists from the 2nd half of the 20th century.
