Roy Lichtenstein (1923 – 1997) was an American artist from Manhattan, New York, where he also lived and worked. Lichtenstein was a leading figure in the Pop Art movement, alongside with Andy Warhol and Jasper Johns, to name a few. He uses old fashioned comic strips as his subject matter, documenting life as he sees it, while at the same time creating a parody of life. His work was also heavily influenced by advertising, and day to day objects such as gum wrappers. His work features thick outlines, bold colours and Ben-Day dots to represent certain colours. Much like the comic-books they are influenced by.
